Astigmatism

Astigmatism occurs when the cornea is shaped oblong not spherical – similar to a football. It also usually occurs in combination with nearsightedness and farsightedness. This curvature results in blurry and distorted vision because light focuses on more than one point on the retina.

The VisionFirst Doctors will conduct a refractive evaluation to determine whether your eyes focus light rays properly. A visual acuity test will determine your ability to see sharply and clearly at all distances. The doctor will also check your eye coordination and muscle control.

Astigmatism can be treated with three methods:

  • Glasses
  • Contacts
  • Vision correction surgery (LASIK and CK)
